Transcript of Jessica's signing:
"Hi, my name is Jessica Mak (sign name: JC). I would like to thank silentSHOUT for inviting me to share with friends and the Deaf community about the upcoming Short Film Festival. The festival is to showcase the work of Malaysian Deaf filmmakers such as shooting a short film, getting actors to act, editing techniques and the creativity on telling stories, to show to the public. It doesn't matter what are the short films about. It is to show the Deaf person's creativity through short film and let the public watch it.
Is this a good event or not? I think it is a good event because when I was small, I never heard about Deaf films. And now, on 17th December 2011, it is going to be the fist Deaf Film Festival in Malaysia. I'm excited because it is the first time. Many Deaf people will go to the festival to watch those films.
I would like to encourage Deaf people who are interested to shoot film, doesn't matter the film is good or bad, attend the festival to share and learn from each other. It is the same for the Hearing people. If you are really interested to shoot films, it is important to continue it whether it is for hobby or wants to turn to become a profession.
After the Deaf & Hearing communities watched the films, they will understand about Deaf life. Regardless you are deaf or hearing, one can understand through film much more easier compared to reading books. This is because some deaf don't read well and some hearing don't like to read.
After watching the movies, people will share the movie with their family and friends. I hope this festival will be continued for next year and onwards. I do support and hope that whoever likes to write story and shoot film continue to do what he/she is doing and one day become success to show to the world that You Can Do It.
Thank you."
